DD Radio Leaves CKLN 88.1FM – Helps to Launch New Website

 

Peace DD Radio Fam!!!

It’s been a looooong time since you heard from us and quite honestly, even writing this is proving to be a little more difficult than we’d anticipated.  As you’ve probably heard by now, CKLN 88.1FM is officially off the airwaves, and although the station is standing strong by delivering podcasts, JJ Rock and myself have decided that it’s time to move on.  The station itself has parted ways with Ryerson University, so we no longer have an on-campus studio to broadcast from.   We’re still amped to keep DD Radio alive, but it will be via monthly podcasts on the soon to be launched, BadPerm.com – a website by women who love hip hop to be shared with the masses – launch date is October 15th. The website will include interviews, reviews, events and exclusive podcasts of DD Radio, along with our charts – we can’t wait!!

Shouts out to all the programmers and staff at CKLN who’ve been trying to make the best of this situation.  Remember – PLEASE support college radio!! No station is immune, and removing stations like this means there are fewer outlets for some of our favorite and emerging artists to be heard.  Really – when was the last time you heard artists like Dilla, Freedom Writers, Eternia, Elzhi, Nottz, Jean Grae, King Jus, Sha Stimuli, Rapsody, on commercial radio??  Support the amazing programming and DJs that college radio is home to!!

In the meantime, we promise to do what we do best – providing a platform for some of hip hop’s dopest artists, breaking new music, and delivering some HEAT on every level – starting with some of the events list below which we’re participating or supporting. While JJ Rock has been killin’ it in the clubs over the past few weeks alone (peep the flyers below), the Dimez represented at the urbanNOIZE Festival in Rexdale, where DJ MelBoogie got to handle the turntables for the amazing Freedom Writers crew.  Mel got honored as a Pioneer at the first ever WombManifesto and was a panelist alongside dream hampton, True Daley, iLuvLola and more at Manifesto’s Feminism and Hip Hop discussion last week. Special thanks to Fred E. Fame and Hip Hop Canada for selecting Mel to be on the cover of the Hip Hop Collector Cards, Legends of the Fame.
