Melissa “DJ MelBoogie” Langley wears several hats in Canada’s urban music landscape.  As a DJ, her roots are deeply embedded in college radio, formerly at CKLN 88.1FM, and currently at CCHRY 105.5FM, where she’s the co-host & DJ for Droppin’ Dimez Radio, Canada’s only all-female hip hop show.  Also a Freelance Writer and Publicist, Mel has had the opportunity to interview some of music’s finest artists including Common, KRS-One, and Flo’etry, and has done PR for a variety of artists and events, from Jully Black, Maestro Fresh Wes and Ron Artest, to Caribana.  Through working with one of the largest urban DJ pools in the country, Mel has collaborated with DJs, music labels, producers and independent artists on an international level.

In 2008, she was named one of Toronto’s Most Inspiring Women in the Creative Arts by Luminato’s Mille Femmes Project, and won the Stylus Female DJ of the Year award. In 2011 she took home two Stylus Awards, one for Underground DJ of the Year, and the other for College Radio Show of the Year, for Droppin’ Dimez Radio, with partner JJ Rock.  She has been the resident DJ for Honey Jam, Canada’s longest-running all female showcase (www.phemphat.com), since it launched in 1995.  Additionally, she is the only female DJ to be a repeated feature guest on Toronto’s FLOW 93.5FM

Determined to support and help build a foundation for emerging artists in Canada, Mel is a board member of UMAC (Urban Music Association of Canada), and on the Juno Advisory Committee’s Rap Category.

    What’s good DJ Mel Boogie?

We’re a new Toronto hip-hop group that feels that our music should be spread across the Canada and with the rest of the world. We rap about positive progression. We don’t curse or glorify sex and violence. Please give us a listen and share our music on your blog. We know you’ll love it.
