Young Ashley dropped this during Black History Month, but lyrics and Knowledge of Self should be celebrated every day of the year.  I’m looking forward to doing some more work with Ashley in the very near future. Keep your ears open and your eyes wide…. Peep the official blurb on the video below:

A young Toronto female MC uses a musical platform to spread knowledge about her culture, identity & roots. In this video she captures many African influential icons who paved the way in History. While staying true to artistry, Ashley Jenelle is known for her raw delivery yet thought-provoking truth in her rhymes.

Toronto’s Frankie Payne is back with a new video and a new EP, entitled Children of the Speaker. Revolutionary, thought-provoking, lyrical and always on point, the EP is definitely worth checking out, which features previously unreleased work. Need more good news? Word is that Freedom Writers are back in the lab.

If you’re looking for an up and coming R&B artist to watch from Toronto, keep your eyes on Nyce Brown.  After releasing the remix to SZA’s “Babylon” a few months ago, Brown has captured the attention of those craving a soulful sound. With a 6-track EP that combines smooth vocals with sultry baselines, featuring production from Kyle Justice, Devid Neale and AndreOnBeat, Brown is getting ready to make his mark in Toronto and beyond.  With songs like the sensual “Screamin'” and “Lay It Down” to the romantic “Need Your Love” and “Prince of Hearts,” Nyce Brown paints a picture etched in love and the essence of true R&B. These aren’t necessarily songs for the club, but can definitely be added to the mix for that one-on-one after party.

We all know that the MAIN event goes down on Sunday March 15th in Hamilton, but they can’t possibly have EVERY single nominee on stage, so the 2015 JUNOfest Nominee Showcase is an opportunity for fans to get a glimpse of their fav nominees before the winners walk away with the hardware.  Steel Town will be going in hard for JUNO Week!

Presented by CBCmusic.ca and sponsored by Steam Whistle Brewing, nominees from the Contemporary Christian/Gospel, Rap, and R&B/Soul Categories will be doing a pre-JUNO special performance at Sarcoa (57 Discovery Drive, Hamilton, ON), on Friday March 13th. Hamilton’s DJ Verse One and myself will be providing the vibe for the night, so I’m definitely looking forward to this one!
