Having been part of this project from the beginning, it’s great to see the full concept become a reality. Congrats to Jus Randy on this one!!

(Toronto) Riding high on the successful double release of his singles “This Is War” and “Gud Mawning” featuring Ray Robinson, Jus Randy proudly releases his debut solo album, InfoBahn.

Carefully contructed, this album is Jus Randy’s first solo mission since leaving the Juno Award nominated, and widely respected group, BrassMunk. The name “InfoBahn” was chosen to make a social commentary on the use of digital communications, and how human culture has become personally disconnected with the present, and is in fact living in a virtual social media matrix. Through skillful wordplay, Jus Randy makes his commentary on this virtual matrix, and his role within it. The album contains lyrical food for thought for hip-hop fans, along with satirical skits and interludes.

Featuring production from Gameboy, JLBR Production/SweetSpot (France), the album also features collaborations with soulful vocalist Ray Robinson, J De Guvna and former Brass Munk member, Richie Hennessey. About this album, Jus Randy commented: “InfoBahn represents the basic foundation of hip-hop while containing the intelligent, lyrical content that allows listeners to be part of a journey and experience with me. I have so many experiences from life, so many stories to tell, so much knowledge to spread, so much living to do that it has translated into my musical growth”. At this point, anyone who calls themselves a fan of hip hop and lives in Toronto, and doesn’t know who Theo3 is, should just walk off a cliff.  I know, that’s a little harsh, even for me, but this is one instance where it’s true.  He’s the dude that coined the term “Screwface Capital” (he wrote a song about it – like to hear it? Here it go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50wdFnZLFJE). He’s without a doubt one of the strongest lyricists I’ve ever met and I’m really pleased that he’s now getting the recognition he deserves on a bigger level.  He’s part MC, part radio host (Stylistik Endeavors | CIUT 89.5FM) , and part community superhero, and ALL DOPE!!

Theo3 (a.k.a. Theology3) has already gotten the co-sign from some of the industry’s most respected heavy weights (Primo, DJ Enuff, every DJ worth their salt in Canada) and is also a member of Freedom Writers….  On this mixtape, he teams up with the legendary Tony Touch to create Elevator Up.  No silly, it’s NOT elevator music, merely hip hop expression at its finest. Check out the video and peep the full deets below!

For Immediate Release:
Sometimes hard work is simply the gateway to even more hard work. Occasionally there are moments of satisfaction in between that provide a much needed break from the continuous cycle of building momentum over and over again. We must revel in those moments no matter how sparse or instantaneous they may be. A difficult task when you’re in the thick of battle.

For critically acclaimed Toronto Emcee THEO3, the grind has never ceased. Consistently putting out cutting edge music, facilitating innovative community programs for youth and hosting the legendary Toronto radio show Stylistik Endeavors has allowed THEO3 zero moments of self congratulation aka the Barry Horowitz self pat on the back. With the much anticipated release of the brand new ELEVATOR UP mix cd, THEO hopes to change that for the better.

Teaming up with International Superstar DJ TONY TOUCH (Shade 45, 50 Emcee’s mixtapes) from New York City, THEO3 has finally succumbed to the notion of enjoying accomplishments and celebrating catalogue. With over 10 years of music to his credit, this special REVIEW TO PREVIEW mix cd lays it all out on the table from classic tracks to brand new compositions. Deftly mixed and hosted by DJ TONY TOUCH, the collection of songs presented is a seamless blend of certified fan favourites such as Snakes with DJ Serious and DJ Grouch (amazing reviews in HHC UK, Allhiphop.com, Exclaim, Pound) and newly minted progressive bangers like Money produced by DJ Fase (forming the group World Wide Side Project). Plus a Special Guest appearance you won’t want to miss!!! 18 Tracks in all!!!

Sooooo…. between the awesome-ness that was Watch the Throne (more album cuts woulda been nice, but the show was dope nonetheless), and the phenomenal being that is known as PRINCE just two days later (I don’t care if he’s over 50 – his face is still like butter. He could get it…just sayin’), I FINALLY got the chance to go through my email and saw some of the goodies I missed in between all the madness of last week.

One was from J Shiltz, who I met for the first time last year.  Teaming up with SonReal (VanCity) and Rich Kidd (Mr. Midas) on the beats, Shiltz brings you “Ridin’ Out”.  I already have a love for SonReal based off “Already There” with Soxx and Rich Kidd (the breakdown near the end where he rides the beat change is hip hop bliss), so when I saw that Shiltz teamed up with both of them, I was already sold.

With a bass that can easily blow out the speakers in my ride, a heavy head-nod synth and a hook that stays with you long after the song is done, I hope DJs can give this one the love it deserves on the airwaves…. Check it out for yourself:

Need some positivity in your life? Jus Randy delivers with this uplifting track and new video for “Gud Mawning”. Featuring one of my fav T-Dot vocalists on the hook, Ray Robinson, this is one I’m looking forward to seeing performed LIVE – maybe at the release party next week for his upcoming album InfoBahn (hint hint!). In the meantime, peep the video to hold you ’til then!

Gud Mawning by Jus Randy Feat Ray Robinson from jusrandy on Vimeo.

Hot on the heels of his video release for “This Is War”, Toronto’s Jus Randy readies the world for the premier of his video for “Gud Mawning“. Featuring soulful crooner, Ray Robinson, the song embodies hope and optimism in a world of uncertainty.  While Jus Randy did a lyrical attack and took no prisoners on his previous release,  with “Gud Mawning” Jus Randy focuses on being thankful for the everyday gifts, living each day as though it were the last.  On this soulful track which anyone can relate to, Jus Randy speaks from the heart, and shows another side of his dynamic personality, by encouraging others to stay positive, even in the face of adversity.

Directed by JediFM, this video is the ideal jump off for November 29th, 2011 when Jus Randy drops his highly anticipated mixtape/album InfoBahnFeaturing his singles This Is War, Motherland, Happy Endings, Gud Mawning ft. Ray Robinson & more, InfoBahn is definitely one not to be missed, and will be available for purchase on iTunes.

I’ve been loving everything from Burd & Keyz for a minute and was just as shocked as the rest of the music community when Keyz suddenly passed away at such a young age last year.  I didn’t know him personally and the fact that he was just steps away from me on stage at one of the first Sound Battle Royale beat competitions in 2010 not long before be passed was another jarring example of how fleeting life can be.  I think it’s beyond fantastic that Burd, his production partner, is continuing his legacy by completing the Keyz of Life project he’d begun. Some background details on the project are below, and if you haven’t checked out the previous releases from this project (which include Shi Wisdom, Rich Kidd, Blake Carrington, Kardinal Offishall and more), you seriously don’t know what you’ve been missing. Even Okayplayer has already given a co-sign, so what are you waiting for??

The full project is due out next month, but the newest single from the Keyz of Life project features Luu Breeze, A-Game and Jahron B (produced by Burd&Keyz and T-Minus)….. ENJOY!!

In 2010 Anthony “Durty Keyz” James from production duo Burd & Keyz passed away suddenly from a bacterial infection called Streptococcus. He was 23 years old. Before he passed, he had started a project called Keyz of Life. In his honour his production partner Andrew “Burd” Liburd decided to finish the project. Featuring artists like Kardinal Offishall, Luu Breeze, Nickelus F, JD Era, SonReal, Blake Carrington, Shi Wisdom, A-Game, OmarLunan aka Oh!, Promise, Redway, Rich Kidd, Rochester, Divine Brown and more, Keyz of Life not only pays homage to Keyz but also to his flourishing home city of Toronto. Set for a December release, Keyz of Life has already garnered critical acclaim for its first single, “LoveSpeak” by Shi Wisdom feat. KJ:

“Producers Burd & Keyz put down some lovely chords over a a flip of the “Let’s Ride” drums and the way Shi Wisdom comes through, it might just top the original Dilla track as your new favorite.” – OkayPlayer.com

Toronto’s Theo3 teams up with another one of my fav’s – SCAM – to give you something EPIC. Perfect preparation for Theo’s upcoming party with none other than Tony Touch (and DJ GROUCH!!!) going down this weekend!! Peep the deets below…

One of the lasting goals for artists in any genre of music is to collaborate with peers at the highest level. Whether that level is creatively based, hinged on popularity or rooted in mutual respect, a true collaboration will highlight the uniqueness of each contributor without diluting the whole. It’s a difficult balance to achieve but when it happens, there’s nothing like it.

Legendary Toronto producer Scam, creator of numerous Canadian classics in the Hip Hop World and pioneering DJ on the revered Power Move radio show has always had the golden touch. Scam’s gritty orchestras and street symphonies have become a hallmark of the Toronto sound backing true school artists Thrust, Frankenstein, Maestro, Concrete Mob and countless others. As an aspiring emcee growing up around the burgeoning Hip Hop scene in Toronto, emcee Theo3 naturally gravitated to the amazing sound Scam was perfecting.

Flash forward to 2011, after meeting up during the recording of the Real Frequency’s critically acclaimed NEW NORTH project, the now established mic controller Theo3 would meet up with one of Canada’s most consistently dangerous producers to bang out a forthcoming album.

Without a second to waste, the duo crafted the soulful, underground heat rock that would become EPIC! A masterfully chopped sample and insightful, on point flows mark this merging of two highly respected Hip Hop creators. EPIC debuted on Live at Headqcourterz with DJ ECLIPSE filling in for Premo, dicing it up back to back and then once again dropping it on Rap is Outta Control on Sirius Satellite. Vapors 2012 – ft. Kish, Dan-e-o & Maestro
(Download the DJ Pack)

http://www.dan-e-o.com/Vapors2012.zip

The classics never go out of style.  When three emcees from Toronto get together to collaborate on a track for the love of hip hop, only goodness can come out of it.  In 2010, when Dan-e-o was visiting Kish in L.A., the two were talking about future collaboration projects. While reminiscing about their favourite old school tracks, and memories of Concert Hall shows, Kish suggested to Dan-e-o that they do a cover of Biz Markie‘s The Vapors.   After reconnecting with Maestro while he was in LA, Kish had found the perfect third emcee to round out the track. The only missing piece was a DJ.  Maestro suggested his sister,DJ MelBoogie, and the rest was hip hop history.

This project was more than just a song for me. I’m constantly trying to push myself out of my comfort zone, and this definitely allowed me to do that. Plus, when someone I respect as much as Kish asks you to be on a track, how could you say anything but yes?? Add two of Scarborough’s finest in Dan-e-o and Maestro, and that easily turns into a hell yeah!  More than that, this is the first track I’ve ever done with my big brother Wes, so that makes it extra special for me. The have already more than made their mark on hip hop in Canada, and that’s something I’m working towards doing. I’m proud of my city, and the amazing level of music and creativity that comes from it, so I’m really happy that I got to rep for Toronto with these three artists that I have so much respect for.

Enjoy!!

Nothing better than getting some love on a Monday morning from my Freedom Writers fam!! While many are still recovering from the smack down they put on the crowd on the Manifesto main stage last month, FW releases their first, and long awaited video – For the Change.  With all the “OCCUPY” movements going on around the world – FW lets you know why you should pay attention to what’s going on in your back yard, and DO something about it.  Peep the video — you’ll definitely see a cameo (or two) by some of your favorite T-Dot hip hop heads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kja76cMSZzY

Change is a small word but a monumental action.

When you willingly take someone out of their comfort zone and question what is perceived as important, standard, reliable and safe…there’s no turning back from that decision.

The unprecedented buzz across the city of Toronto for Powerhouse Hip Hop collective THE FREEDOM WRITERS is largely due to the fact that each member flies in the face of conventional sounds and styles, maintaining a completely original approach to making music. The recent Dundas Square performance in downtown Toronto in front of 10,000 transfixed concertgoers was proof positive that something has to change, and change it will. With a groundswell of support from fans, media, radio and fellow artists, many of whom appear in the brand new FREEDOM WRITERS video “For the Change” directed by Big Sproxx, these 6 unique and talented artists are set to take the World by storm.

A hard hitting production layered with horns and an infectious bassline, “For the Change” features Emcees Tona, Adam Bomb, Progress, Frankie Payne and Theo3 weaving in and out with rapid fire flows that rise in intensity with every line. Produced by Big Sproxx, this showstopper that captivated thousands and stole the show on a bill with many notable International acts is now available for purchase atwww.freedomwritersmusic.bandcamp.com STREAM and PURCHASE NOW!

Peep the BRAND NEW  FREEDOM WRITERS video “For the Change” with cameos from a who’s who of Toronto Hip Hop emcees, producers and DJ’s all showing support for this ‘unprecedented’ (in the words of Juno award winner Shad K) collective of Toronto Hip Hop artists. It’s time for a change… and that change starts now!

So, I gotta admit, as a DJ I rarely get as amped about an artist and their projects as I am about Jus Randy. More frequently than not, artists are more than ready to fill your ears with things they plan to do (oddly enough – without a plan!), which doesn’t always become a reality.  But when you work with an artist who is willing to walk the walk, it gives you an appreciation for artists and their journey, along with a special understanding of the drive an artist needs to get from Point A to Point B.

My opinion on Jus Randy is biased – we went to the same highschool, and I watched as he became one of the original members of the Juno-nominated group, Brass Munk, to the solo artist he is today. With the double release of his singles, Gud Mawning and This Is War, he’s gaining more and more popularity (and respect) as a solo artist, and it’s well-earned.  He drops his new video for This Is War TODAY, so I’m really excited for him!!! Check the little blurb below and then click the link to see the video!!

What does WAR mean to you?

Two nations battling for freedom? Two MCs going head-to-head in a cypher? Or possibly payback for a relationship gone down the tubes?  In his new full-length video, THIS IS WARJus Randy lyrically doesn’t pull any punches on the competition, while the visuals tell the familiar (and hilarious) story of a love gone wrong.  Check out the full-length video for THIS IS WAR HERE .
Toronto’s Jus Randy has been gaining popularity as a solo artist nationally and internationally since dropping two simulataneously released singles This Is War and Gud Mawning featuring Ray Robinson.  Though he’s no stranger to creating videos, THIS IS WAR marks his first as a solo artist.  Directed by Kevin JediFM” Barton (whose film/video credits include work withChuck Berry and Beenie Man) , the video is a great visual accessory for Jus Randy’s lyrical wordplay.  About working with Jus Randy, JediFM had this to say: “Jus Randy is the kind of artist directors love to work with. We discussed my initials thoughts on the concept and he trusted me enough to translate  This is War into something more amusing. JR is the kind of artist who doesn’t take himself too seriously and has fun with the art. This doesn’t take away from his professionalism and attention to details. It’s a quality other artists in hop-hop can draw inspiration from.”
Jus Randy, who is currently in the midst of a national radio tour, took time out to say this about the video:  “Shooting the video was a great and fun experience.  The visuals are just another example of what people get to feel and see as they get more familiar with my brand of music.”  The video is the ideal preparation for November 29th, 2011 when Jus Randy drops his highly anticipated mixtape/album InfoBahn
