Still Standing Album Artwork

A new album from ‘Sauga’s finest, J Shiltz! Every track is pretty dope so it’s pretty hard to choose a favourite after just one listen, so I guess I’ll have to just run it again, and again, and again!  Still Standing features production by Lancescape, Rich Kidd, Junia-T, Kev Brown, Relic and more. Vocal collaborations feature Ray Robinson, pHoenix Pagliacci, Rapper Big Pooh and more.

I’m really looking forward to interviewing J Shiltz on DD Radio next Tuesday –  make sure you lock it in!!

Here’s the official word from the man himself:

I’m pretty excited to hear more and more from Toronto’s J Shiltz (shouts out to ‘Sauga!). I’ve heard him grow as an artist over the past few years and I’m really impressed and amped to hear what he’s going to deliver this summer – especially via his upcoming album, Still Standing, being released on May 9th and will be available for free download via jshiltz.bandcamp.com.  He’s going to be on the DD Radio airwaves sometime over the next few weeks, so I’ll be sure to get the full scoop on all the work that went into building that album – I’ll keep you posted!

In the meantime, check out this new video from J Shiltz – From The Soul featuring Junia-T (of Smash Brovaz), and produced by Relic. Directed by Evan Ciniello:

Sooooo…. between the awesome-ness that was Watch the Throne (more album cuts woulda been nice, but the show was dope nonetheless), and the phenomenal being that is known as PRINCE just two days later (I don’t care if he’s over 50 – his face is still like butter. He could get it…just sayin’), I FINALLY got the chance to go through my email and saw some of the goodies I missed in between all the madness of last week.

One was from J Shiltz, who I met for the first time last year.  Teaming up with SonReal (VanCity) and Rich Kidd (Mr. Midas) on the beats, Shiltz brings you “Ridin’ Out”.  I already have a love for SonReal based off “Already There” with Soxx and Rich Kidd (the breakdown near the end where he rides the beat change is hip hop bliss), so when I saw that Shiltz teamed up with both of them, I was already sold.

With a bass that can easily blow out the speakers in my ride, a heavy head-nod synth and a hook that stays with you long after the song is done, I hope DJs can give this one the love it deserves on the airwaves…. Check it out for yourself:

J Shiltz really impressed me last year with the Kev Brown produced track, Louder. We fully RINSED that track on DD Radio throughout last summer, so I’m glad to see him ready to hit ’em with another one for the summer, which promises to make even more of an impact. Partnering with Rich Kidd on the beat, Shiltz goes in hard once again – peep the track.

J Shiltz is the artist behind the Stylus Award winning single “Louder” backed by underground super producer Kev Brown and featuring verses from Grimace Love of Monolith and Notlam. J Shiltz is the same artist that brought the boom bap with “It’s On” produced by Toronto’s own Junia-T and featuring verses from Spek-Won and Rishaard. Right on the heels of that release came “Gimme That Flow” Shiltz’s first solo offering with accompanied Much Vibe featured music video. The 23 year old Sauga City native is now prepping for the release his first feature length album, scheduled to drop this coming fall… The first single from this upcoming project is sure to turn heads. Mixed and mastered by Lamounde Moore for Notlam Productions, “For The Cash” is that raw no holds barred hip-hop that the city has been waiting for. Shiltz goes in alongside veteran spitter Rishaard of the Monolith crew and Frank Nitt, the Detroit native widely known for comprising one half of the rap duo Frank n Dank. Over blazing production from Rich Kidd, the three lyricists deliver their sentiments on the driving force of the modern world; cash. It should be no surprise that the lines between the raw and the conscious are truly blurred on this thought provoking hip-hop banger. Stay on the lookout for the next single from J Shiltz titled “Gimme That Flow Pt. 2” produced by Lancecape featuring Nish Raawks, Junia-T, and Wio-K.

Truth be told most DJs can get upwards of 100 new singles in their email every week, possibly even daily. But every now and then we get a little surprise in their inbox from a complete stranger, and fortunately for me this was one of them.  The original version of Louder by Toronto’s own (by way of ‘Sauga) J Shiltz did indeed catch me by surprise, and it was a good one. Produced by Kev Brown, the track had that laid back nonchalance often associated with Kev’s signature production style, and J Shiltz also went in on the mic –> I was hooked from the first listen, which for me is pretty rare.  On the Lancecape remix, Shiltz goes in heavier to match the griminess of beat, and it’s a match made in aural heaven!! Bring in Notlam and Grimace Love (Go Scarborough!!!) and there’s no way this one can lose on either side of the city.  I’m amped to get J Shiltz on the show, sooner rather than later, so stay tuned for details on that!! Real heads already know that it’s MegaCity hip hop at its finest… do you??  Listen and find out: http://www.zshare.net/audio/78113670c1ca9b72/
