Peace y’all!

I don’t post all the events that I do, but this one is pretty special.  I interviewed Boi-1da years ago (pre-Drake madness) on DD Radio, as a returning judge of Urbanology Mag‘s monster Beat Battle competition. He was pretty quiet, but with a great personality and mad humble.  When I bumped into him a few years later (post-Grammy wins under his belt plus all the attention that comes with it), I was REALLY happy to see that he was pretty much the same guy – still humble and sweet!

That’s why I’m pretty amped to be dropping a guest DJ set at this event this coming weekend.  Come party with me and DJ Romeo (Don’t Forget The Name!), as we celebrate the birthday of Boi-1da and ALL Libras! The birthday boy will not only be hosting the party, but the word is that he’ll also be dropping a guest set on the decks – now, THIS I gotta see!!

And so should you! Join us on Saturday October 18th, as we celebrate the birthday of Boi-1da and all Libras at SARCOA (57 Discovery Road, Hamilton).  Bottle service is recommended.

Want to become the next Boi-1da, Big Pops or  Burd N Keyz?

Thanks to those names being behind some of the biggest songs to hit the clubs over the past few years – on an international level – all eyes are on Canada to find who the next big producer will be from north of the border.  Not for the shy or faint of heart, Battle of the Beatmakers keeps it pretty real with feedback and voting by some of the industry’s hottest producers.  If you think you have what it takes, keep reading and register NOW at! I appreciate the level of complexity, patience and concentration it takes to build something that’s memorable and lasting, so I definitely salute the producers who invest in their craft, and can’t wait to see who’s got next….

Registration closes August 22nd at 11:59PM!

I truly respect Regular Robb‘s grind. Before you recover from one track he’s already hitting you with the next one. Check out the newest single, I’m Gone (produced by Boi-1da).  And for more info on this artist, check out the website at

Toronto’s Theo3 teams up with another one of my fav’s – SCAM – to give you something EPIC. Perfect preparation for Theo’s upcoming party with none other than Tony Touch (and DJ GROUCH!!!) going down this weekend!! Peep the deets below…

One of the lasting goals for artists in any genre of music is to collaborate with peers at the highest level. Whether that level is creatively based, hinged on popularity or rooted in mutual respect, a true collaboration will highlight the uniqueness of each contributor without diluting the whole. It’s a difficult balance to achieve but when it happens, there’s nothing like it.

Legendary Toronto producer Scam, creator of numerous Canadian classics in the Hip Hop World and pioneering DJ on the revered Power Move radio show has always had the golden touch. Scam’s gritty orchestras and street symphonies have become a hallmark of the Toronto sound backing true school artists Thrust, Frankenstein, Maestro, Concrete Mob and countless others. As an aspiring emcee growing up around the burgeoning Hip Hop scene in Toronto, emcee Theo3 naturally gravitated to the amazing sound Scam was perfecting.

Flash forward to 2011, after meeting up during the recording of the Real Frequency’s critically acclaimed NEW NORTH project, the now established mic controller Theo3 would meet up with one of Canada’s most consistently dangerous producers to bang out a forthcoming album.

Without a second to waste, the duo crafted the soulful, underground heat rock that would become EPIC! A masterfully chopped sample and insightful, on point flows mark this merging of two highly respected Hip Hop creators. EPIC debuted on Live at Headqcourterz with DJ ECLIPSE filling in for Premo, dicing it up back to back and then once again dropping it on Rap is Outta Control on Sirius Satellite. Check the link!

DOWNLOAD “EPIC” for FREE at and be sure to check for the upcoming THEO3 and DJ TONY TOUCH ELEVATOR UP mixtape featuring production from Boi 1 Da (Not Afraid, Forever), Tone Mason (Light Up, Hood Boy) and many many more…

One of my favourite R&B vocalists for a long time, I’m pretty amped that Ms. Andreena Mill has a new album to showcase her amazing voice.  Definitely ballad-heavy, the “All Eyez on Me” showcases her range as a vocalist and has more of an overall mature sound to it.  She’s not in the lane of teeny bop sensations who are clogging up the radio airwaves right now, but she has the sound of a grown ass woman who has the talent and capability of taking the reins of her career in her own hands.

Includes production by Boi-1da, Hit-Boy, Tone Mason and up and coming producers Spinz, Soundsmith and Snaz. A cool joint to enjoy late at night – preferably with a partner.
Enjoy and follow her at @AndreenaMill

This will undoubtedly be one of the hot ticket items for this Fall! Producer extraordinaire, 9th Wonder and artist Stalley have been added to an already impressive list of  judges. If you’re an on-the-rise producer and want to make your mark, you still have time to register for this competition — deadline is August 15th. Not sure if you’re ready to compete? Some of the other events look like they’ll make pretty good networking opportunities.  See the details below!

Grammy award winning and nominated producers, T-Minus, Boi-1da, 9th Wonder and Maybach Music Group Recording Artist Stalley will be joining aspiring producers in Toronto, Canada for the nations official producer competition and retreat. BBM Producer Retreat is a three-day, ten-event series.

Grammy nominated and platinum-selling producer, T-Minus is taking time to show his love for the event that gave him his initial push as a producer. T-Minus was crowned champion at the 2005 installment of the competition. “It’s an honour to come back and be a part of what was a big influence on my career, says T-Minus. “It was a pivotal moment in my life; it really showed that I had the talent to make it in the industry.” Since his win at BBM, T-Minus has gone on to earn a Grammy nomination for his production work on Ludacris’ “How Low”, and has produced chart toppers like T.I.’s “Poppin’ Bottles”, Nicki Minaj’s “Moment 4 Life” featuring Drake and current smash hit by DJ Khaled “I’m On One” featuring Drake, Rick Ross and Lil’ Wayne.

Grammy award winning and platinum-selling producer Boi-1da, has competed in the event winning three times in previous years and took part as a judge in 2008 and 2010. He returns this year looking for the next top producer to win the 2011 crown. “I’m looking for creativity, transitions in the beats, and honestly just hard hitting beats” says Boi-1da. “Their beats have to move the crowd!” Boi-1da has garnered much awards and acclaim with chart topping hits and album credits such as Eminem’s album “Recovery”, Drake’s “Thank Me Now”, DJ Khaled’s “We The Best Forever” to name a few. Collectively selling platinum six-seven times over.

Grammy award winning producer 9th Wonder makes his first appearance to the competition this year. Very familiar with the grind producers have to endure to make it in the industry. 9th was tapped to produce on Jay-Z’s “Black Album”, three songs for the R&B Super group Destiny’s Child on the album “Destiny Fulfilled”, Mary J. Blige for “The Breakthrough”, Erykah Badu’s “Honey” and Ludacris’s “Do The Right Thang”, and will also be working with Drake on his sophomore album. 9th Wonder signs on as a special guest judge, panelist and keynote speaker at the Pro Audio Conference. The excitement doesn’t stop there! 9th Wonder will be screening the Canadian premiere of “The Wonder Year”, a documentary directed by Kenneth Price, which chronicles a year in the life of CEO, NAACP ambassador, Duke University professor, husband, father, son and Grammy award winning producer 9th Wonder.

Rounding out the list of judges is Maybach Music Group recording artist Stalley. “Producers and artists like the announced judges motivate aspiring producers to strive for success. Those same aspiring producers motivate me to continue putting my heart and soul into keeping BBM going.” Says Clifton Reddick, BBM/Sound Supremacy Entertainment Founder. “Turning on the radio and hearing Boi-1da & T-Minus or turning on the TV and watching music videos even awards shows featuring/acknowledging them is also something that makes me know the show must go on.”

Full details on each event will be made available via . This is the ultimate destination for any producer in Canada serious about showcasing their talent, networking and taking the next step in their musical career.

Over the past few years I’ve seen more and more producer battles take to the stage, and I had the opportunity to have a front row seat to Battle of the Beatmakers last year as one of the house DJs for the night.  The judges are at the top of their game (ie. Boi-1da), and up and comers have the chance to be critiqued by the best.   I was especially thrilled that the champion for 2011 was a female, (shouts out to Neenah Beats), and there were at least 2-3 other female challengers in the competition last year.

Definitely worth checking out if you want to get the inside scoop on who will be running the production game in Canada over the next few years. If you feel you’ve got what it takes to compete, registration is open now – see below for the details…

I can’t believe it’s been almost a month since my last post!!! August was admittedly pretty crazy for me – for those who emailed me to ask what up, the updates are coming soon!!

In the meantime, I just got this in my Inbox so I had to put it up. I had the pleasure of interviewing Jonny Roxx a few months ago in the DD Radio environment. Energy for days, this artist is on the come up so pay attention!!  The single, Jump On, from last summer still gets some major airplay, but he also has a growing arsenal of other tracks, including Do It and a hot  dub of Beamer, Benz or Bentley (love the pic w/Ponytailz, so I just had to post it above). He’s been the  featured artist on several tracks by Ms. Kim Davis (a.k.a his Ride or Die Chick!!), but he can hold his own on a track too.  The “PREtape” also features Bishop Brigante, Ken Masters, JD Era, Drake, Darryl Riley and more!!  Take a listen to some of the goodies he has in the works, all wrapped up Rolled Up just for you:

Jonny Roxx: The Roll Up (PREtape) Free Download

Featuring production by T-Nyce, Rich Kidd, Baseline, August, the Gifted Club, and two-time Grammy nominee, Boi-1da, Roxx’s gritty voice is soooo hip hop – just loving it!!  Stay close because this is just a prelude to his debut album.  In the meantime, peep the videos below and hit him up at
VIDEO: “Beamer Benz or Bentley” (RMX) Jonny Roxx

I gotta admit it – I REALLY like the vibe of  Toronto’s twin rap duo A-Game.  ‘Go Head Shawty’ was a certified banger last summer and could easily go toe-to-toe with anything being released state side. The video was mad cute too!  This time around, A-Game is flying high with ‘Airplanes’ –> a big chune which even comes with a dance! LOL!  The song has been out for months, but they just recently dropped the video and are determined to go in with heavy artillery.  Produced by T-Minus (same producer for their first single and the master behind Ludacris’ mega hit ‘How Low’), the track has been blazing up charts and getting plenty of airtime.  The team is currently in the studio working on their PilotModeMuzik EP which is due fall of this year which sees production from Boi 1da, Bass Line, T-Minus, Megaman, & Tone Mason.  We’ve had them as guests on the show a few years back, and they’ve definitely stepped their game up and developed so much as artists since then.  Stay tuned because I have a strong feeling that we’ll get them in the booth at DD Radio before the end of the summer. In the meantime, check out the video and listen to the song!
