This one is going to be quick but a must post – salute and much appreciation goes to Ms. Emily Mills, founder of the annual How She Hustles Brunch. Celebrating an amazing five years this past weekend, the brunch is an annual networking event for female entrepreneurs from all areas of business. Not only do you see familiar faces from radio and television, but fashion designers, hairstylists, caterers, brand specialists and more – most of whom have a side ‘hustle’ in addition to whatever full time work, school and family commitments they have. And quite honestly, sometimes the hustle is just life itself! I made it to the first one 5 years ago, when there were only about 50 women in attendance. This past weekend, I was shocked and amazed to see a room with over 230 women: all ages, all backgrounds, all awesome. There were so many people there, I sadly didn’t get to say hello to everyone as much as I would have liked. The online community has grown to about 2,000 dedicated members.

Although it was announced that this would be the fifth and final edition, I’m hoping we can somehow nudge Ms. Mills into continuing to produce this much-needed event. I don’t usually do special mixes, but for Emily, I just had to do a little something for the ladies to vibe to during brunch. No bells and whistles, just a mix done the true mix tape way – all in one take.  Peep the link below for the special all-ladies ‘How She Hustles’ Mix, created by yours truly:

One of my favourite R&B vocalists for a long time, I’m pretty amped that Ms. Andreena Mill has a new album to showcase her amazing voice.  Definitely ballad-heavy, the “All Eyez on Me” showcases her range as a vocalist and has more of an overall mature sound to it.  She’s not in the lane of teeny bop sensations who are clogging up the radio airwaves right now, but she has the sound of a grown ass woman who has the talent and capability of taking the reins of her career in her own hands.

Includes production by Boi-1da, Hit-Boy, Tone Mason and up and coming producers Spinz, Soundsmith and Snaz. A cool joint to enjoy late at night – preferably with a partner.
Enjoy and follow her at @AndreenaMill

So if you know me at all, I’ve already clued you in to the fact that I’m a HUGE fan of Toronto-based  Saukrates.  He’s an all-around crazy-talented artist who has skills on the mic, can produce, plays instruments,  AND he’s Guyanese!! lol….  Some of his classic tracks can still bun down a party (just try dropping Still Caught Up or Hate Runs Deep in a jam, and watch what happens!).

Additionally he’s worked with some other music heavy hitters, including Redman, Method Man, Maestro, Nelly Furtado, k-os, and the list goes on.  Saukrates is behind some of the biggest chunes from over the last year or so (including the Soaring to Heaven remix alongside Rich Kidd), and if you’re a fan like me, I know you’ve been waiting for years for the full album to FINALLY drop.  Every now and then he delivers tidbits from the soon-to-be released album, Saukrates: Season One, but today I got slapped with not one, but TWO tracks from Sauks. Call it Christmas in July if you’ve been good….. ENJOY!!

One of my fav T-Dot lyricists and 1/5 of the acclaimed Freedom Writers crew, Frankie Payne (a.k.a. Jugganaut) goes in on this one, alongside the lovely and mad talented Andreena Mill. Peep it!!

Who are we? Why are we here? How do we survive?

We all struggle over these questions. Trying to find ourselves, our purpose! In this way we are connected. Everyone has a different path. It’s just that all paths are going in the same direction. All of the things that separate us are illusions. Colour, demographics, belief, these are only surface reflections of the true source of our division. The imaginary difference between rich, and poor. There are two worlds, two realities. One will never touch the other and the other will have unlimited access to both. Because in a rich mans reality, for the wrong choice he might face disgrace, embracement, or maybe punishment. But in a poor Mans world, for the wrong choice he will face death, hunger, and imprisonment. We all understand this, even if we don’t acknowledge it, more then many of us are ready to die for a chance to access an untouchable, unrealistic, reality.

Once again Frankie Payne is back with an emotionally charged hard hitting masterpiece of unprecedented detail, Raining in Toronto. Featuring the soulful sultry Voice of Andreena Mill, Frankie Payne delivers a true description of everyday events happening in the hood and how the affect us all. Following the huge success of “My Life” (featuring Saukrates) and the ever growing buzz of the Freedom Writers Collective, Frankie Payne wanted to re-introduce this classic tale showcasing his clever, visually inspiring lyrics and legendary story telling ability. Over a powerful and moving musical composition, courtesy of Snaz (Andreena Mill “la la la”, French Montana, Dame Grease etc.) and with clever, well thought out visual concepts courtesy of Jason Gosbee (Second place winner of the youtube International Film competition, White Collar Criminals, OMG (TV Movie). Frankie Payne takes us on a journey through the ghettos of Toronto, Capturing the emotions, and realities of the people who live and breathe them. Raining in Toronto stands as a metaphor representing the depression, and oppression, that can only be understood if experienced. Because this where hope is born. The same places where bullets fly and mothers cry. Because we  don’t  have  to die!

For Bookings, Interviews and Shows –

Had a crazy and hilarious interview on last night’s edition of DD Radio with Erik Flowchild and the incomparable Tika Simone.  Been dying to get both of them on the show for a minute and discuss all things music, but the main reason for their visit was to talk about Intimate & Interactive – a new Open Mic night starting THIS Friday (July 2nd) – but this one is with a twist.  Not only will artists have the opportunity to perform in front of a crowd with host/hype woman extraordinaire, Mz. Simone, but audience members will have a chance to ask the artists questions – talk show style!! A quasi bootcamp PR training session, the artist will no doubt get some invaluable lessons from the experience, and the audience is guaranteed a rare opportunity to be entertained and educated about some of the city’s hottest artists. Upcoming performers include Andreena Mill, Solitair and many, many more!!

Shouts out to Tika Simone for this brainchild, presenting a much needed forum to showcase the amazing talent the city has to offer.  Running every Friday throughout July and August at Lambadina Lounge (875 Bloor Street West, 2nd Floor), you have no excuse not to attend at least one!!  Erik Flowchild is the first artist up to bat so don’t miss out on what folks will surely be talking about for a hot minute!! Now, of course I know my opinion is heavily biased since I’m working on this project, but I just wanna say THANK YOU for all the support on this single.  The track is getting heavy rotation on both college and commercial radio and Theo3 (a.k.a. the Mayor of The Screwface Capitol)  is waaay overdue.  Widely respected and internationally known, Theo3 recently got back from being a hand-picked performer in DJ Eclipse’s annual Halftime Show event.  On this track he and Tona go toe-to-toe and verse-for-verse. Mz. Andreena Mill was the “picture perfect” choice for the hook (BTW – she’s definitely the next to blow on the R&B front. Her track “You and Tomorrow” ft. Saukrates was my fav tracks from 2009, and her current single Real Love, is just as sick!!).  As if that weren’t enough, the track is produced by Boi-1da, T-dot’s producer of the moment, who has the midas touch – yes that Boi-1da who’s behind the monster hits from Drake, Eminem and others.

The single is now available for purchase on iTunes or by checking out his website at — Peep the video link below:
