UMAC Partners with North by North East 2010
The Urban Music Association Presents Two Panels at this year’s  NXNE Conference
For Immediate Release
June 7th, 2010

(Toronto)  In a continuing series of events related to Canadian urban music artist development, UMAC, Urban Music Association of Canada, is proud to partner with The McKee Agency and NXNE (North by North East) to present two inspirational panels at this year’s conference. The panels are aimed at helping emerging, up-and-coming urban artists learn how to make their music and presentation more commercially viable, in addition to discussing the history and development of urban music in Canada. They will also learn what it takes to peddle their wares on a multitude of levels in the digital age of music.

The panel discussions will include:

A) How We Got Here: A Reflection of How Urban Music in Canada Got to Where it is Today (in partnership with The McKee Agency)
From the likes of Maestro (Fresh-Wes) and Michie Mee to Dream Warriors, explore how Canada’s pioneers of Hip Hop promoted themselves in the late 80’s/90’s and helped build the Canadian Urban Music scene into what it is today. Confirmed panelists include Michie Mee (ground-breaking MC/actor), Carl Allen (DJ, CKLN 88.1FM), Kerry “KLC” Crawford (Baby Blue Soundcrew), and Derek Brin (award-winning producer), moderated by legendary radio host, Ron Nelson.  3 – 4 pm – Regency A (inside the Hyatt Regency Hotel).

B) UMAC Presents: Ya Heard?!? Demo Listening Session
This is an opportunity for young talent to have at least a minute of their best product constructively critiqued by the participating panelists and the audience at-large. UMAC has found that by offering opinions of not only the movers, shakers and decision makers of the industry, but also the tastemakers and consumers of the product in the general audience, gives a well-rounded viewpoint on the artists’ works. Confirmed panelists include Kyron “Kid” Clarke (Urbanology Magazine), Flo King (, Jeni McKenzie (FLOW 93.5FM), Chris Perry (Songwriter/Producer), and DJ MelBoogie (Host/DJ, CKLN 88.1FM), moderated by UMAC’s VP, Dwayne Dixon.  4 – 5pm – Regency D (inside the Hyatt Regency Hotel).
